A cutting room in Kazimierz
Two people, one ground-floor room, and a cutting table that is slightly too small. Bobbincourt has made doll clothing to order since 2017.
Why made to order
Doll clothing at this scale does not survive mass production well. A seam allowance of five millimetres has no tolerance for a pattern cut to an average — either it fits the sculpt in front of you or it gapes.
So we do not hold finished stock. Each order is cut individually from the bolt, which keeps the grain running the same way on every panel and lets us match nap on velvet and corduroy. It is slower, and it is the reason our lead time is three to four weeks rather than next-day dispatch.
What we make ourselves
- Cut and sewn here: outerwear, blouses, skirts, trousers, sailor sets, linings
- Made here, finished by hand: mohair wigs, on a cap we block ourselves
- Bought in and re-checked: glass eyes, shoe lasts, hardware, elastic
We say which is which on every listing. A shop that claims to hand-make its own 14 mm glass eyes is, in almost every case, not doing that.
Fabric
Most of what we use comes from mill ends and remnant lots — quantities too small for garment manufacturers, which is exactly the right size for work at 1/3 scale. It also means a fabric may be available for one cutting run and never again. Where a listing says final bolt, that is literal.

What we will tell you no about. If a sculpt's proportions mean a piece cannot close without altering the design, we will say so and decline the order rather than ship something that technically arrives. This happens perhaps twice a month and it is the single most useful thing we do.
Who we are
The studio publishes under the workshop name rather than personal bylines. Commissions, alterations and correspondence all come back from the same two people; there is no support desk in between.
